WHAT IS THE VMY?

The Vincentian Marian Youth Association is an INTERNATIONAL association of young people that began in 1830 at the request of the Blessed Mother Mary.  Mother Mary transmitted a message to Saint Catherine Laboure and asked that an Association for the young be founded, where Mother Mary will "pour out many graces".  Today, VMY has more than 200,000 members in 80 different countries, and VMY is under Canon Law.

Its purpose: “To form members to live a solid faith following Jesus Christ the evangelizer of the poor. To live and pray like Mary, with simplicity and humility, taking on the spirituality of the Magnificat. To arouse, animate and sustain the missionary spirit of the association, especially through missionary experiences to those who are poorest and to youth.”

The mission of VMY is to create an environment, which empowers the youth to enter into communion with God and serving the Church. VMY helps youths grow closer to Mary, Jesus, each other, and the poor.

Its mission is accomplished through:
• Promotion of Youth Ministries
• Teaching and fidelity of the Gospel message
• Commitment to social justice and service of the poor

OUR GROUP

Enkindled by the Gospel values and heartened by the teachings of St. Vincent de Paul, the VMY Greece which was founded on October 28, 2009, is continuing its commitment in the spirit of love, service of the poor, humility and in joy. It impels and empowers the youth towards a closer relationship with God and allows them to offer one self for Christ alone.  It inculcates in the hearts and minds of the young, the love of God for the poor. Members of the VMY are mostly drawn from Filipino communities situated in Greece which share the same values and culture.  Today, the VMY Greece family has grown bigger. We have welcomed members from the Mary’s Angels group, children in the Sunday School preparing for their first Communion, until pre-confirmation.

Our primary concern is CHARITY and JUSTICE. The members are one in spirit in bequest for compassion and concern for the less fortunate. We witness God’s love by doing our own works of charity. VMY Greece has regular programs for the youth and the community itself.  To nourish one’s soul and increase one’s wisdom about the truth, we hold house-to-house visit/evangelization for our prayer meetings and bible study every Sunday. And every fourth Sunday of the month, all members are called to join the VMY’s monthly session. Of which, the members are presented with certain matter or topic in relation to the works of St. Vincent and they are encouraged to bestow their inspiring thoughts and express their point of views. We also facilitate catechism classes and free guitar lessons for pre-school and school age children. On Sundays the community is gathered all together to attend the Holy Eucharist, to participate in the Sacraments and other Para- Liturgical Celebrations of the Catholic Church organized by the diocese.

VMY Greece strongly believes in the dignity of man as a human person therefore just before the year ends, we offer our hands to the elderly. With the help of the ministry, we extend our care and love for the aged by giving gifts, food, and entertain them through singing and dancing.
