VMY GREECE ARISEs with Easter Benefit Concert
21 April 2023
Truly a memorable night of music, as VMY Greece, in cooperation with the Munting Tinig Choir and the Miraculous Medal Center (MMC) Vincentian community in Athens, Greece, staged its Easter Benefit Concert entitled “ARISE” last April 17, 2023, at the St. Denis Cathedral Auditorium. The benefit concert was organized as a fund-raising drive to support its youth delegation for the upcoming International Vincentian Youth Meeting (IVYM) and World Youth Day (WYD) in Lisbon, Portugal from July 29 to August 6, 2023. Tita Marycel Binibini stood as the concert’s overall director and musical conductor while Kuya Thad Mendoza and Ivy Blaise Palope took turns serving as voice-over hosts.
The concert officially commenced as flagbearers Roy Constantin Gascon (for the Philippine flag) and Mark De Leon (for the Greek flag) paraded towards the stage for the Entrance of Colors. This was then followed by the concert’s Main Chorale Performers - the Munting Tinig and the VMY choir - singing the Philippine and Greek national anthems. Immediately after, the chorale group offered the opening invocation as they sang the Πάτερ Ημών (The Lord’s Prayer) as well as paid tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary with lighted candles where Mary Catherine Binibini and Jodi Mariana Meneses solemnly sang the “Ave Maria”.
Meanwhile, though her presence was not felt during the concert, Sr. Anna Dounavi, DC, MMC’s Spiritual Directress, extended her Easter greetings to everyone and addressed first the audience with her special message via a voice patch.
The MMC’s Sunday Catechism School classes were the first group to be introduced as they formally kicked off the night’s intermission performances. They performed a hand pantomime of the song “Gifted to Give” which was the official national theme song during the Philippines’ celebration of its 500th year of Christianity.
The 1st Concert Act opened as the Main Chorale Performers lighted up the stage with a musical repertoire of Disney animated film anthems. Dressed in colorful costumes, they belted out the songs “Into the Unknown” (from the movie “Frozen 2”), “I See the Light” (from the movie "Tangled"), “A Whole New World” (from the movie “Aladdin”), and “How Far I’ll Go” (from the movie “Moana"). The entire chorale group was met with wonderful praises from the audience as they performed those Disney soundtracks while simultaneously changing stage positions one song after the other.

Invited youth groups, the El Shaddai Youth and CFC-Youth for Christ, subsequently cut short the main concert act, as they performed their special intermission numbers with an interpretative dance of the worship song “Awesome God” and a modern dance number, respectively.
Concert Act 2 followed instantly as the Main Chorale Performers returned on stage and took a trip down memory lane and did a lively performance of some of the most memorable and inspiring hymns of the WYD. Wearing colorful (VMY) t-shirts, the chorale group effortlessly performed their 2nd concert WYD-themed musical repertoire which consists of the hymns “Blest are the Merciful” (WYD Krakow 2016), “Firmes En La Fe” (WYD Madrid 2011) and “Tell the World of His Love” (WYD Manila 1995). Adding an appeal to their performances was the different hand movements they did on the last WYD hymn they sang.
Members of the Vincentian Samaritans of our Lady of the Miraculous Medal (VSOLMM) succeeded in the 2nd Concert act as they continued mesmerizing the audience with an interlude of amazing performances. Dressed in traditional Filipiniana costumes, they gleefully sang the song “Rise Up” (popularized by Andra Day) and rendered a traditional Philippine folk dance known as the “Cariñosa”.
After VSOLMM’s intermission numbers, the Main Chorale Performers stepped up again on stage for their 3rd and Final Concert Act. In black formal outfits along with scarves marked with the concert logo “ARISE”, they belted out a triad set of well-loved Christian worship songs in Greek. Specifically, they joyfully interpreted the songs “Φως του ουρανού” (Here I Am to Worship), Το ξέρω θα Μ'αγγιζεις πάλι! (Let us Exalt His Name) and "Σ’ευχαριστο Θεε "(Give Thanks).
Wrapping up the concert’s intermission performances, selected members of VMY Greece were later introduced as they offered the audience a medley of worship songs.
Meanwhile, as the concert came near its end, sponsors and special guests were given due gratitude and acknowledgment for their presence, steadfast support, and generosity.

Immediately after, tons of applause was heard all over the auditorium, as every single performer of the concert was called back on stage for the final curtain call. The last call was eventually given to the show’s overall director, Tita Marycel Binibini.
“However, this concert is not just for raising funds, but also to share in deep joy with you with our songs. We are not professional singers and we didn’t go to a music school, instead what we have is our talents and sacrifices…” Tita Marycel stressed as she delivered her closing remarks thanking and recognizing everyone who exerted their time, talents, efforts, and support in making the concert possible.
Sr. Anna Marie Prentezi, the representative of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Apparition, also had the opportunity to deliver her congratulatory message to each one who brought a beautiful evening of music to everyone in the auditorium.
Finally, all concert performers ended the musical show on a high note as they collectively performed their Encore songs “See the Light” and “Arise”.
Again kudos to the Munting Tinig Choir, VMY Choir, MMC Catechism Classes, MMC Catechists, VSOLMM, VMY Greece parents, and everyone else who worked on the production of this special show. Our special thanks as well to all who sponsored the concert event.
